SMS stands for short messaging service, or more commonly known as a ‘text message.’ Each text message can comprise up to 160 characters which is transferred from one mobile phone to another, or in the case of the IN4MA from one wireless monitor to a computer.
The IN4MA uses SMS as both a way of transferring data from the remote telemetry unit to a central computer system, and also as a way of alerting the operator of an alarm or condition – ‘the pump at the transfer station has failed…’ |
