What methods are available for measuring the level or product within a tank?
The two main methods used to measure level are ultrasonic and hydrostatic, but there are other methods such as Radar and load cells.
Tanks are often irregular shapes and as both ultrasonic and hydrostatic methods measure the height of the product within the tank, then calculations need to be performed to provide volumetric information.
Some products are potentially explosive and therefore the sensor used cannot be allowed to produce a spark that may ignite the product or the gases around. In these circumstances we use ‘intrinsically safe’ sensors which are tested and proven under such conditions and isolated in such a way that a spark cannot be produced.
